Brown Falcons

Brown Falcon with prey

While I have been patiently waiting for something to happen at the Wedge-tailed Eagle nest, I have also been watching a pair of young Brown Falcons. They are quite active, and spend a large part of their day chasing each other around, while also avoiding the constant harassment from the Black-shouldered Kites and Nankeen Kestrels.

This pair seems to feed mostly on mice, and there appears to be a ready supply of mice at the moment. They also feed on insects, and spend quite a bit of time on the ground chasing them down through the long grass.

CAUTION: This video contains images of a falcon eating its prey, so may not be for the squeamish.
